Post Apocalyptic themed World map

2020 June - July (Update puzzle October)

Update puzzle: 

Two puzzles are added in the underground reservoir. The core gameplay objects include water and pumps. Their function are realized by Blueprint in Unreal. Check the walkthrough video and puzzle-step document below.

"Future, a space traveler landed on the post-apocalyptic cold desolate Earth by accident. To survive and to find necessary materials for its ship, the traveler wandered throughout the world and discovered the faded civilization. 

Along the way, the traveler constantly encountered the vestiges left by indigenous people during their last travel. By interacting with them, the traveler developed a understanding and a connection with the Earth, as well as with human civilization. "

During the COVID 19 shutdown, I jumped in the creation of this post-apocalyptic themed map. Looking for a more organic and polished world foundation, as well as a better structure presentation, I experimented the procedural world builder GAEA and fabricated costume proxy meshes with Blender, which powered the world with a precision of construction, narrative and ethos. 

The map is a river valley area, where the geography has been deformed by frequent earthquakes since the depopulation. It contains some ruins and an abandoned underground reservoir.

I designed the terrain and partitioned different zones by referencing the natural condition and city composition found in Japan. With the contrast between open world and linear level, residential and city architecture, I hope to create a fluid and rhythmic flow. 

This map is focused on the layout/zones, visual composition, environmental narrative and flow. It didn't contain any specific gameplay function.
